Trachten Shirts

The authentic look of a traditional shirt

A traditional shirt belongs to the authentic Bavarian outfit for men – as well as the Lederhosen the so- called ‘Krachledernen’, the brogues and the woolen socks. What makes a shirt a traditional shirt? First of all the  checked pattern, then there is the fine details such as the embroidery which often has the theme of mountain landscape, or Edelweiss and jumping deer as well as the buttons. The buttons normally stay with the traditional feel as they are made out of either deer antlers or they look like they are made out of deer antlers. Beige patches on the sleeves, shoulders or on the button holes also add to that authentic traditional look.  As buttons did not exist before, the really traditional shirt is one that just pulls over your head. It is then tied at the collar with a ribbon or string. Many of our slip-on shirts are even comfier as they have a shorter line of buttons which stop at the chest.

It all depends on the cut

In our collection you can find traditional shirts for men in a regular cut, slightly tailored cut shirts as well as slim fit for men which have a figure hugging cut. The tailored cut shirts and slim cut shirts are more modern and accentuate the masculine figure. The cut emphasizes wide shoulders as it is cut narrower at the waist as the regular cut. Lots of our traditional shirts have buttons which hold the sleeves up if you want to roll them up. Folded up sleeves give a very relaxed look and change a long-sleeved shirt into an airy short-sleeved shirt.  It looks especially stylish when the inner cuffs are a different colour to the shirt. The cuffs you can then see when you roll up the sleeves and they give a great contrast to the actual colour of the shirt. In addition to the normal classic, you can also get traditional shirts with the stand-up collar. The classic collar accentuates a good figure when it is worn under a round-necked woolen jumper, as it peeks out from underneath the jumper. The stand-up collar suits waistcoat or a jacket. This gives the outfit a very elegant look.

Traditional shirts for various tastes

In the collection from Ludwig & Therese you can find traditional shirts that have a rustic and traditional look to a modern and fancy look. We cater for fans of tradition as well as those of you who like a modern outfit. The tradition-conscious men tend to purchase a checked shirt or a shirt with embroidery. The typical checked shirt is blue-white, green-white or red-white. However there are other checked shirts available in trendy colours such as pink, turquoise or Bordeaux-red which is a bit darker than the traditional bright red. Thanks to the variety of colours you can not only mix and match your shirts but you can also match your shirt to your partners Dirndl colour. This is a great idea for special occasions and local festivities. All classic and trendy colours are a perfect match to the brown tones of Lederhosen.  For those of you who are trendy we recommend the checked slim fit cut with a different colour of cuffs or cuffs with one collar and the printed Bavarian emblem on them. A plain white shirt looks more elegant than a checked shirt. The deer antler buttons and the traditional cords and the narrow stitched folds next to the buttons provide that traditional look. A white shirt underneath a traditional waistcoat or a jacket provides an especially elegant touch.

Definitely something you can wear everyday

Traditional shirts don’t just suit Lederhosen or a traditional suit. They are just as flattering for every-day wear. Combine your classic checked shirt with Jeans or wear your white shirt with stand up collar with a smart pair of suit trousers. The fancier traditional shirts can also be worn as business clothes. As well as the fact that there is such a variety of combination possibilities, the fact that the shirts are of such high quality, especially from brands like Almsach, Aumühle or OS-Trachten really makes them a great choice to wear every day. They are made out of easy-to-clean cotton which is soft against your skin and is comfy to wear.
