The Lederhosen – the traditional trend for ladies

Ladies don’t always have to choose as a traditional outfit a Dirndl. Lederhosen is an alternative, which since quite a while is becoming more popular than a Dirndl. Back in the day females only wore Lederhosen – if at all- to work in the stalls or on the fields. The traditional outfit to wear every day or at special occasions was always a Dirndl. Now designers have discovered the fashion potential in Lederhosen and have established this for ladies. The trend at the moment is definitely going in the direction of trousers. This is to do with the fact that there is now such a choice available from long to short, from traditional brown to a modern red colour. They are also very robust and flexible. The leather is very resistant and means that any wild party on the beer benches at the Oktoberfest or beer garden is not a problem at all.
They are also perfect for hiking – the soft leather fits with your figure perfectly and the low-rider cut of the trousers means they are very comfy and have lots of movement in them. The real Bavarian leather Lederhosen is not only made out of real leather, but they also have the traditional characteristics. They have a front flap, a side knife pocket as well as braces with buckles. Normally they are decorated with deer antler buttons as well as embroidery on the pockets and the braces. Female Lederhosen always usually have these traditional elements mixed in with a modern look. These are most evident in the length and colour of the Lederhosen.

Lederhosen for ladies in short, knee length or tied at the knee

In contrast to the Dirndl where the attention is on the neckline, the eyes go to the legs when women are wearing Lederhosen. The shorter they are the more the legs of the girl wearing them are emphasized. The short Lederhosen are especially sassy, so called shorts which stop normally in the middle of the thigh. The style with the Bermuda form goes to the knee, the ones which are tied at the knee end just under the knee. The length you choose is completely up to you. The original ones are the ones which are tied at the knees.  As well as the length, modern Lederhosen vary in colour. The original dark brown is now in competition with the fresh tones of salmon pink, red or turquoise – every season new colours appear. These colours give female Lederhosen a modern young look. New this season is traditional trousers made out of denim and they also come in different lengths.  Instead of the leather, denim is used here but the other traditional elements can still be seen. This casual style of the traditional trousers can be worn at Oktoberfest but can also be worn to parties – if you wear them you really are a trend setter.

Versatile traditional outfits with Lederhosen

The advantage of Lederhosen compared to a Dirndl is that they can be combined with so many things. The classic choice is to combine them with a checked traditional blouse or a traditional corset. You can exchange this for a polo-shirt or a traditional shirt and you have a modern look which can be worn every day and looks great – this is a great choice for women who are not too sure about the traditional outfit.  The modern look can be emphasized, when you instead of wearing wool socks and traditional shoes, wear patterned tights and high heels or ballerinas with your Lederhosen. Further variety is possible when you decide if you wear your Lederhosen with or without braces.

How to look after your Lederhosen correctly

It doesn’t matter if you buy short, knee length or tied at the knee Lederhosen – all of our Lederhosen are made out of real wild bock suede leather, cowhide suede leather or goatskin suede leather. In order to make sure your trousers stay in good condition you have to look after and clean them properly. We recommend if they get really dirty to get a proper leather cleaning in a shop. Lint and sanding dust you can get rid of yourself with a lint roller. Rain drops can be removed with a sponge brush, by brushing the leather back and forth in alternate directions. You have to remember: Lederhosen get more charm with time.
