Knee-length Lederhosen made out of leather – the classic choice

The shorts made out of leather with their typical embroidery, the trouser front flap with their deer antler buttons and the standard braces used to be a must for men if they were dressing up for a local festivity. Today they are most undoubtedly regarded as part of the Bavarian culture. They are once again very popular among all generations and a must especially at the Oktoberfest, but also at other occasions such as weddings, local festivities or beer garden visits. With the knee-length shorts, you definitely look well-dressed than with the short Lederhosen which end just above the knee. You don’t normally wear knee-high socks or socks with the knee-length shorts, but you are meant to wear the so-called trouser stockings. These stockings are so long that you can pull them over the knee and fold them at the knee. You then put the trousers over these stockings and tie then just under the knee, which then stops the stockings sliding down. The other two classic items to combine with these knee-length shorts are of course the brogue shoes as well as a good old blue and white Bavarian checked shirt.

This is how you wear the knee-length Lederhosen

There are much more possibilities to style your knee-length Lederhosen these days, plus they're getting more unconventional. You don’t have to wear the braces, which do of course give the outfit a very rustic look. Instead of the braces you can just wear a simple belt. A white shirt with stand up collar looks just as good as a shirt with a print of a deer’s head on it. If you wear a traditional waistcoat over the shirt the outfit will look more elegant – a perfect choice for weddings and other local festivities. If you go for the modern look then you should choose traditional shoes which look more like trainers rather than brogues. You should really match the shoes colourwise to the colour of the leather of the trousers. The knee-length shorts from Ludwig & Therese are available in different shades of brown from hazelnut brown to an antique brown as well as in an elegant black. The shorts are made out of high quality cow, wild goat or deer leather which is soft and smooth and is therefore very comfy to wear.
